Internationally acclaimed Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez III is set to perform the national anthem at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28.
In an interview, Sofronio described the opportunity as a significant milestone both personally and professionally.
“Personally and professionally, it’s a great honor. Nakadagdag siya ng aking self-esteem and recognition and worth as a performer and as a professional singer,” said Sofronio.
Now based in the United States, the singer returned to the Philippines specifically for the event, calling it a proud moment in his career and a symbolic return to his roots.
“Kahit saan ka magpunta, you always come back to your chosen land,” he added.
Sofronio will perform “Lupang Hinirang” a cappella.
“When you sing it from the heart and when you get to honor the country, God, the people that’s going to be listening, I think it’s challenging, but it’s going to be worthwhile,” Sofronio continued.
The 2025 SONA will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
