MVP Group mobilizes relief ops across Luzon

The MVP Group of Companies said it has launched a coordinated multi-sector response to support Filipinos affected by the recent crisis, providing critical connectivity, rescue operations, clean water and road assistance.

“I’m proud of how quickly our people sprang into action,” said MVP Group chairman Manuel Pangilinan.

“They all have a deep understanding of our Group’s purpose, which is to make sure that Filipinos have access to essential services—particularly communication, power, transportation, and clean water—especially during times like these,” said Pangilinan.

PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. offered one day of free calls, texts and 250 MB of data in the most impacted areas to help affected families connect with loved ones and access vital information.

Crisis connectivity centers were also established, providing free calls, Wi-Fi and charging stations. The Smart Cares Crisis Hotline (+63288457799) remains operational for customers needing to reconnect with family or access emergency assistance.

Meralco has deployed rescue and restoration teams, including three motorized fiberglass boats and two high-bed trucks, for emergency response and power restoration.

Crews worked around the clock, restoring power to nearly all affected customers, primarily in flood-stricken areas, by July 23. One Meralco Foundation has also delivered relief packs to communities in Marikina City, Quezon City, Bulacan and Cavite.

Maynilad, the MVP Group’s water utility, has provided clean water to communities in need, delivering 3,550 four-liter water packs and 2,760 bottled water packs (350ml) to evacuation centers and local government units. Teams are on standby to increase deployment as access and needs evolve.

Across Luzon’s tollways, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) has activated an integrated crisis response. On NLEX, pumping stations were deployed to reduce flood levels. Patrol teams and traffic marshals are operating 24/7 to assist motorists and provide roadside emergency assistance.

Several U-turn slots were opened to redirect vehicles away from flooded areas, and MPTC teams distributed snacks and bottled water to stranded passengers. The tollway group’s social media accounts also provide real-time traffic updates and safety reminders.

The Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. (AKFI), in collaboration with other MVP Group Foundations, is distributing thousands of relief packs and hot meals to displaced families. AKFI and Maya Philippines are also running a digital fund drive, encouraging the public to scan a Maya QR Code to raise funds for food, clothing, shelter, and other assistance for affected Filipinos.

“As the situation evolves, so will the response. The MVP Group remains on the ground, focused on restoring access to vital services. We will continue working closely with national and local authorities to deliver support where it’s needed most,” said Pangilinan.
