PhilHealth releases P76.6 million to Quezon City for HIV benefit claims

Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said it releases P76.6 million in claims payment to the Quezon City government as an accredited HIV Treatment Hub.

It said 3,086 patients benefited from PhilHealth’s Outpatient HIV/AIDS Treatment (OHAT) Package from Jan. 1, 2024 to July 18, 2025.

“This amount demonstrates the commitment of both PhilHealth and the local government of Quezon City to providing access to available and affordable healthcare services for Filipinos living with HIV,” PhilHealth said in a statement.

PhilHealth acting president and chief executive Edwin Mercado led the ceremonial check turnover on July 23, 2025 to Quezon City Mayor Josefina Belmonte, witnessed by Quezon City health officer Romana Abarquez, PhilHealth NCR vice-president Bernadette Lico and other PhilHealth officers.

The OHAT Package was enhanced to P58,500 annually covering anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and essential services for people living with HIV (PLHIV).

This marks a 95-percent increase from the previous P30,000 allocation, ensuring broader access to this life-saving treatment, PhilHealth said.

It said the expansion is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen the delivery of differentiated HIV treatment and care services nationwide in response to the significant surge in infections.

PhilHealth said that by expanding access to anti-retroviral therapy and other essential services, the enhanced OHAT package plays a pivotal role in advancing the country’s public health response.

PhilHealth encourages all stakeholders to promote awareness and utilization of the OHAT Package. With 271 PhilHealth-accredited HIV Treatment facilities nationwide, members can access care wherever they are.
