A NEW record was set again in the women’s 3-position air rifle event by Amparo Acuna during the second leg of the recent national tryouts for the coming Southeast Asian Games.

The 28-year-old Acuna did it again when she fired 589 points over the weekend   at the Philippine Marine Shooting Range in Taguig City.

The other week, Acuna, who just returned from a training stint in Germany, broke two national records on the first leg.

In the 3-position event, Acuna tallied a 584.

Acuna, who spent two weeks at a camp in Dortmund, Germany with Franchette Quiroz, recently broke a national record – – her highest in three years in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event, hitting  a 623.8.

While in Germany, Acuna said she worked on improvements in her stance with Quiroz after attending the camp of Heinz Reinkemeier and Gaby Buhlmann, who have been training ace shooters at their  international rifle school in Dortmund for years.

Because of this, Acuna has made the grade to qualify for the coming Asian Championships in Kazakhstan.

Support from the Philippine Sports Commission and the Atletang Ayala program, which former national swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi runs, made it possible for Acuna and Quiroz to make the trip.
