Marcos stops SONA preps, orders shift to relief ops amid flooding

Malacañang has ordered the immediate suspension of all preparations for the President’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) and instructed all government agencies to shift their full attention to flood response and relief operations.

In a statement, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin cited reports that government personnel were installing SONA-related materials in public areas while many communities remain inundated due to heavy flooding.

He pointed out that Mr. Marcos was “dismayed” over the situation and redirect efforts at providing relief for flood-affected communities.

“All SONA-related preparations are hereby ordered immediately suspended,” Bersamin said.

“The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with all concerned agencies, must put full attention and exclusive focus on flood response and relief operations,” he added.

The President tapped the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to lead evacuation operations, distribute relief goods, and coordinate with local government units to set up temporary shelters.

He urged all government personnel to fully commit to their roles as public servants during this critical time.

“Do your best to serve the Filipino people,” President Marcos said.

“As government employees, you have a responsibility to cherish and fulfill. Now is the time to show the nation why you are called public servants,” he added.
