LPA east of Aurora becomes Tropical Depression ‘Dante’

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday afternoon announced that the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored east of Aurora has developed into Tropical Depression “Dante.”

Moving north-northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), its center was last estimated 1,115 kilometers east-northeast of Central Luzon.

The tropical depression had maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph.

However, no wind signal has been hoisted as of PAGASA’s 5 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin.

Dante is forecast to move northward or north-northwestward over the Philippine Sea from tonight to tomorrow, before turning northwestward toward the Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea.

Based on projections, the tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday or Friday.

It may reach tropical storm category tomorrow, with further intensification into a severe tropical storm remaining less likely but “not ruled out.”
