Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III, announced on Monday the arrest of a notorious Chinese national and prime suspect in several criminal cases, including a restaurant shooting in Makati and the abduction of a 14-year-old student in Taguig.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City, Torre identified the suspect as Wang Dan Yu, also known as Bao Long. He was apprehended in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, at midnight on Saturday as he allegedly attempted to re-enter the country through the southern backdoor, based on intelligence reports.
Bao Long, Torre said, was onboard a speedboat from another country when he was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by a Makati City court.
“The Philippine National Police has ways to monitor individuals and control the situation. So we saw, we monitored his plans until we knew that he was coming back. We did not allow him to move freely in our country. We arrested him as soon as he set foot on Philippine soil,” Torre said.
Bao Long is wanted for murder, carnapping, and kidnapping for ransom. He is particularly linked to a shooting incident at a restaurant in Makati City in October last year. He was also identified as the prime suspect in the abduction of a 14-year-old student in Taguig in February.
Additionally, Bao Long was allegedly involved in the 2022 kidnap-for-ransom case of a Chinese acupuncturist in Manila.
“We will definitely do everything to prevent this person from escaping. We want to emphasize that the Philippines is not safe for criminals who hide here or commit crimes and flee to other countries,” Torre said.
Bao Long is currently under the custody of the PNP Custodial Facility at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
