Malabon LGU on ‘Blue Alert’ amid monsoon rains

The Malabon City government has placed its disaster response system under “Blue Alert” status to ensure swift action in communities affected by heavy rainfall and flooding caused by the southwest monsoon or “Habagat.”

In a statement on Sunday, the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), assured that the city’s Emergency Operations Center is operating round-the-clock, with all emergency units on standby.

Disaster response teams from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Engineering Department, and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office have been deployed to assist in ongoing operations.

Under the heightened alert, the MDRRMO is actively monitoring water levels in rivers and flood-prone areas while maintaining constant coordination with all 21 barangays through the city’s Command and Communication Center.

City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete said rescue equipment, including boats, high-axle vehicles, life vests, and early warning systems, has already been deployed to critical areas.

Forty-seven evacuation centers citywide have been activated to shelter residents who have been forced to leave their homes due to rising floodwaters.

On Saturday evening, the City Social Welfare and Development Department reported that four families, comprising a total of 12 individuals, had evacuated to Tinajeros Elementary School.

They are receiving basic assistance such as hot meals, mats, and relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The MDRRMO is encouraging residents to report emergencies using the AHON (All Hazards One Network) mobile application, which operates 24/7 to connect users with local responders.
