The campaign against abusive transport operators at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) continues, with more than 90 vehicles already apprehended.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), a total of 98 vehicles—mostly taxis and vans—have been impounded since the crackdown began earlier this month.
Violations include unauthorized operations, overcharging, defective meters, unregistered units, and even improvised license plates. Other offenses include breaches of franchise conditions, illegal parking, and driver dress code violations within the airport complex.
The joint effort involves the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC). Their mission is to ensure smooth traffic and eliminate illegal and abusive transport providers at the country’s main gateway.
Among the latest offenders are three coupon taxis, which are supposed to charge fixed rates but instead demanded up to ₱3,500 for short trips. Fourteen more public utility vehicles were also caught for overcharging and franchise violations.
The LTO issued temporary operator’s permits (TOPs) to the violators, who face penalties. Meanwhile, 104 colorum vehicles were also intercepted across Philippine gateways between June 27 and July 15. Five members of the Airport Police Department were relieved following revelations of a “60/40” extortion scheme with taxi drivers.
