Philippines defeats Kyrgyzstan to earn Davis Cup Group III promotion

The Philippine men’s tennis team earned a hard-fought promotion to Davis Cup Group III after scoring a commanding sweep over Kyrgyzstan in the Group IV Promotional Playoff.

AJ Lim sealed the victory for the Philippines with a composed 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Ilgiz Kamchibekov in Singles 2, clinching the country’s promotion. Earlier in the day, Jed Olivarez set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win against Kirili Kistanov in Singles 1 to give the team an early 1-0 lead in the tie.

Unified Tennis Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed pride in the team’s performance and promotion.
“This achievement is a testament to the team’s hard work, discipline, and fighting spirit,” said Lhuillier. “From start to finish, our players have shown that Philippine tennis is ready to rise again in the Davis Cup.”

A former Davis Cup team manager and a longtime advocate for grassroots tennis, Lhuillier also praised Cebuana Lhuillier tennis ambassador AJ Lim for his steady leadership throughout the campaign.
“Our players have truly embodied the spirit of Laban Pilipinas—relentless, united, and determined to bring Philippine tennis to new heights,” he added.
