‘Crising’ exits PAR, strengthens into severe tropical storm

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday morning announced that Tropical Storm “Crising” has developed into a severe tropical storm.

However, the state weather bureau announced that Crising exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The center of its eye was last estimated, based on all available data, to be 235 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes.

The severe tropical storm was moving west-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph). It had maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised in Batanes, the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Dalupiri Is., Calayan Is.), and the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Pasuquin, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Bangui).

Signal No. 1 was also hoisted above the rest of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of La Union (Bangar, Sudipen, Luna, Balaoan, Santol, San Gabriel, Bacnotan, San Juan), Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, and the rest of Cagayan.

Crising will continue moving generally west-northwestward toward southern China for the rest of the forecast period. It is expected to continue intensifying, possibly becoming a typhoon by Sunday afternoon or evening.
