The government will resume providing subsidy to Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) next year, according to Department of Finance (DOF) officials.
PhilHealth also does not plan to seek additional contributions from its members, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said.
He cited PhilHealth’s substantial reserve funds as the reason. The maximum contribution per member will remain at 5 percent of their basic salary, he said.
The DOF also expects PhilHealth to resume receiving P53.26 billion in annual subsidies by 2026, said Undersecretary Alu Dorotan-Tiuseco.
The health insurer did not receive subsidy from the national budget this year because of its large reserve fund.
“I think there’s no budget for this year, but in 2026, there is a subsidy for PhilHealth, yes, for that year,” Recto said when asked about the resumption of subsidies.
The department also anticipates an increase in the budget for the Department of Health, as education and health remain among the President’s priorities.
