The official Philippine population reached 112,729,484 as of July 1, 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Thursday.
This figure, based on the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN), was officially declared by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. through Proclamation No. 973 dated July 11, 2025.
The official count includes all persons residing in the Philippines’ 18 administrative regions as of 12:01 a.m. on July 1, 2024 as well as Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates and missions abroad.
Compared to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), the population increased by 3.69 million from 109.04 million in 2020. However, the annual population growth rate (PGR) slowed to 0.80 percent from 2020 to 2024, down from 1.63 percent between 2015 and 2020.
The PSA traced the slowdown to factors such as declining fertility and birth rates, elevated mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic and subdued migration activity.
Region IV-A (CALABARZON) recorded the largest population in 2024 with 16.93 million, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 14.00 million, and Region III (Central Luzon) with 12.99 million. These three regions combined account for about 39.0 percent of the total Philippine population. Six other regions reported populations exceeding five million.
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is the least populated, with 1.81 million, or about 1.6 percent of the total population.
Sixteen of the 18 regions experienced a slowdown in their annual PGR from 2015-2020 to 2020-2024. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was the only region to post an increase in its annual PGR, while Region V (Bicol) saw a population decline.
BARMM remained the fastest-growing region with an annual PGR of 3.43 percent. It was followed by Region III (Central Luzon) at 1.08 percent, Region IV-A (CALABARZON) at 1.07 percent, NCR at 0.91 percent, and Region X (Northern Mindanao) at 0.73 percent. Region V (Bicol) recorded the lowest PGR at -0.07 percent, making it the only region with negative growth.
