The low pressure area (LPA) monitored some 725 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes has developed into a tropical depression named ‘Crising,’ threatening several provinces across the Bicol Region as well as parts of northern Luzon and Eastern Visayas.
In a weather bulletin issued at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of heavy rainfall attributed to this cyclone as well as the prevailing southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’
No tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised so far in the affected provinces, but 50- to 100-millimeter rains are projected to fall on Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar and Biliran.
PAGASA said ‘Crising’ is moving westward at 35 km per hour. It is heading toward Northern Luzon and may landfall on the Babuyan Islands by Friday or mainland Cagayan, according to initial forecast scenarios.
‘Crising’ is expected to reach tropical storm category by Thursday morning and may continue intensifying over the Philippine Sea. PAGASA said it may further develop into a severe tropical storm prior to its approach in northern Luzon.
