Ex‑NCT member Taeil sentenced to 3.5 years for aggravated rape

Former NCT vocalist Moon Taeil, 31, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison by Seoul Central District Court on July 10 after pleading guilty to aggravated quasi-rape involving an intoxicated Chinese tourist.

Two co-defendants received the same term.

The court also ordered mandatory completion of a 40‑hour sexual violence treatment program and imposed a ban on working in youth-related fields for five years.

Prosecutors had recommended a seven-year sentence, but the term was reduced due to Taeil’s first-offender status and a settlement with the victim.

Taeil and his accomplices were taken into custody immediately following the verdict. SM Entertainment terminated his contract in October 2024 after his indictment earlier that year.

The case adds to a series of high-profile sexual assault convictions within K-pop and has sparked criticism over sentencing leniency for celebrities in South Korea.
