NexGen Energy plans to join fifth round of Green Energy Auction

NexGen Energy Corp. announced plans to join the fifth round of Green Energy Auction where 3,300 megawatts of offshore wind capacity targeted between 2028 and 2030 will be offered for private sector development.

“We have registered to be a qualified bidder under the government’s Green Energy Auction Program [GEAP 4]. For the Real offshore wind project, we have already erected our met mast in the area and is presently logging wind data, we expect to join the GEAP 5 round,” NexGen president Eric Roxas said in a speech during the annual stockholders meeting.

Met masts are essential for confirming the wind resource potential for its project.

The Real offshore wind project in Quezon province has a capacity of 2,000 megawatts.

“For our Pandan onshore wind project, we are determining the location to install the met mast and should be installed within the next few months. The other projects have ongoing pre-feasibility studies, identification of met-mast locations and community engagements,” Roxas said.

The 200-MW Pandan wind project is also located in Quezon province.

NexGen said it sharpened its focus on long-term growth, with 14 renewable projects in its development pipeline, 2 solar projects, 7 offshore wind, and 5 onshore wind sites, all with awarded service contracts.

It said there are already four projects in the advanced stages.

The 9.9-MW Palauig Solar Farm is an expansion of the company’s existing plant in Palauig, and is set for mid-2026 operation, while the Real and Mauban Offshore Wind Farm projects successfully erected their 120-meter met mast in the area, with wind instruments placed at different heights.

“Your management is in continuous discussions with several foreign investors from Japan, China and the Middle East who have expressed strong interest in joining us for the development of these projects. As we continue our pre-development phases, the more interest we generate for the investors and enhance shareholder value,” Roxas said.
