Power retailer Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said Friday power rate will increase in July on the back of higher generation charges.
“Meralco customers can expect a P0.49-per-kilowatt-hour increase in their electricity bills this July due to higher generation charges,” Meralco said in an advisory.

Meralco earlier attributed the possible increase in its July generation charge to a weaker peso and higher transmission charges from the reserve market.
Meralco in June announced a power rate reduction of P0.1076 per kWh, bringing the overall rate for a typical household down to P12.1552 from P12.2628 in May.
