Returning Mayor Isko makes Divisoria streets clean again

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso wasted no time delivering on his campaign promise to restore the city’s charm, launching an intense cleanup of Divisoria—one of the country’s busiest markets—on his first day back at the helm of the nation’s capital.

Domagoso deployed water trucks and garbage collecting teams early Monday, June 30, as he formally assumed office following his election. In a Facebook post, the returning mayor said his new mandate marks “the beginning of a new phase of hope” for the normally chaotic metropolis.

“God has mercy and with the help of the people of Manila, we are going to create a 10-year plan for the City of Manila,” he said in a videoclip, encouraging his constituents to support his goal in transforming their environment.

In a series of status updates posted recently, Domagoso shared the frustrations of many Manileños over piles of garbage in different parts of Manila, resulting in serious traffic among other concerns. He vowed to resolve this problem and bring back a type of local government that works 24/7.

Domagoso officially begins his new term this week, renewing his crackdown on street clutter and petty crimes. He assures Manila residents that under his leadership, traffic will flow smoothly and keep pedestrians safe while restoring a sense of order in one of the city’s most crowded districts.
