Primelectric Holdings Inc. (PHI), led by businessman Enrique Razon, announced power rate reductions for June 2025 across its utility subsidiaries in the Visayas region to sustain low rates and enhance service quality through infrastructure upgrades, system loss reduction programs and smart market participation strategies.
The rate cuts benefited customers of More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) in Iloilo City, Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) in Central Negros and Bohol Light in Bohol.
Customers of Negros Power will see a savings of P0.75 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), amounting to P150 in monthly savings for an average household consuming 200 kWh. Negros Power’s rate for June is P11.14 per kWh, down from P11.69 per kWh in May.
MORE Power customers will enjoy a rate decrease of P0.61 per kWh, resulting in an estimated P122 in monthly savings for a 200-kWh household. MORE Power’s residential rate for June is P10.52 per kWh, down from P11.12 per kWh in May.
Bohol Light customers will experience a P0.75-per-kWh cut, lowering the residential electricity rate from P11.07 per kWh in May to P10.32 per kWh. This translates into P150 in savings each month for households using 200 kWh.
PHI attributed the total reduction of P1.91 across the three distribution utilities to favorable economic factors, notably lower costs in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and decreased transmission charges.
For May, the national average WESM price decreased by 15.3 percent month-on-month to P4.52 per kWh, with Visayas averaging P4.52 per kWh.
Transmission wheeling rates also saw a slight decrease in May, though ancillary service charges increased, leading to an overall average transmission rate increase for the May 2025 billing period. Despite this, strategic energy management by PHI’s subsidiaries allowed for the rate cuts.
These ongoing rate reductions position PHI’s utilities among the most affordable electricity providers in the Visayas region.
Roel Castro, president and chief executive of PHI, cited the company’s commitment to affordability and reliability.
“Our goal is to pass these savings directly to consumers, helping families allocate funds toward essentials like food, education, and other vital needs,” Castro said.
A satisfied customer from Bohol said, “the new rate reductions have made a real difference in our monthly bills” and are “a relief and a welcome help for our family’s weekly expenses.”
