PAGASA eyes potential LPA near Bicol, Eastern Visayas

A low pressure area (LPA) is expected to move closer to Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas in the coming days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 2 p.m. Sunday, PAGASA said LPA outside the Philippine area of responsibility is forecast to have a low potential of becoming a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. It was located 1,240 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.

PAGASA’s five-day weather outlook showed that the combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Mindanao, Mimaropa, Bicol and Quezon until Monday.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

On Sunday, the southwest monsoon had triggered scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in several parts of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

From Tuesday to Friday (July 1-4), the LPA is forecast to move northwestward toward the eastern section of Northern Luzon, according to PAGASA.

The LPA and the southwest monsoon will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Luzon, including the National Capital Region, and the Visayas. Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
