The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) said Friday it penalized AirAsia MOVE after it posted excessive and unreasonable airfares on its booking platform.
This supports the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure that every Filipino has access to safe, fair and affordable travel, it said.
“The P6-million penalty imposed on AirAsia MOVE sends a clear message: the government will not tolerate any form of abuse to Filipino passengers,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
The DOTr said it would continue to protect the rights of the commuting public and to hold accountable those who violate established consumer protection regulations.
The CAB on May 26 issued a cease-and-desist order against AirAsia Move, preventing it from offering, promoting or selling tickets of other Philippine carriers at prices that exceed the approved fare-structures established by the agency.
This followed a complaint from Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez and Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, who reportedly paid more than P77,000 for a one-way Tacloban to Manila flight for two via the platform.
AirAsia MOVE committed to full cooperation with the Philippine government, pledging to uphold transparent and fair pricing and prioritize consumer protection.
