Filipino coming-of-age film “Sunshine” opened the 27th Taipei Film Festival, with lead actress Maris Racal and director Antoinette Jadaone attending the premiere.
On Saturday, production company Project 8 Projects shared a series of photos on Instagram showing Racal and Jadaone gracing the film festival.
During a Q&A session, Racal described the film as “a story about dreams, second chances, and women’s rights.” On the other hand, Jadaone said she hoped the screening would introduce international viewers to more Filipino films.
“If it’s your first time to see a Filipino film, I hope Sunshine will open your eyes to more of Filipino cinema,” she said.
Sunshine follows the story of a young gymnast who discovers she is pregnant during the week of national team tryouts. On her way to buy illegal abortion pills, she meets a mysterious girl who eerily resembles her.
In February, “Sunshine” won the Crystal Bear for Best Feature Film in the Generation 14plus section at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.
