Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) is alerting the public to fraudulent messages falsely claiming that its acting president and chief executive Dr. Edwin Mercado is requesting money deposits.
The scam messages instruct individuals to deposit money with the promise of reimbursement, saying that Dr. Mercado is in a “crucial meeting.”
PhilHealth said Mercado has not authorized, initiated or endorsed any such request. The corporation also urges extreme caution regarding any communication suggesting otherwise.
“If you receive such messages, do not respond, do not send money, and report the incident immediately to PhilHealth or the appropriate authorities. You can contact the PhilHealth Corporate Action Center through their 24/7 hotlines,” it said.
PhilHealth asked the public to remain vigilant and help prevent the spread of scams that undermine public trust.
