The palaspás represents the palm branches waved by crowds as Jesus entered Jerusalem, a symbol of welcome, honor, and reverence for Christ as King and Savior.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, leading up to Easter Sunday. Instead of arriving like a warrior on a mighty horse, Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey—a deliberate act symbolizing peace, humility, and servanthood.
Humility in leadership, especially for community leaders and heads of families, mirrors the kind of servant-leadership Jesus modeled when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.
God’s kingdom is not built on force or dominance, but on love, grace, and humility.
Unlike the kingdoms of this world—built on power, control, and conquest—the Kingdom of God stands in stark contrast. It reverses the world’s values, challenging us to see greatness not in dominance, but in service, compassion, and self-giving love.
This kind of servant-leader is especially significant as the Philippines is set to embark on a political journey to choose a new set of community leaders these coming elections.
At the very heart of God’s kingdom is love—not the fleeting or conditional kind, but a love that is sacrificial, unconditional, and deeply inclusive.
Jesus did not march with armies or seize power through force. Instead, He won hearts through mercy. He healed the broken, lifted the lowly, and welcomed the forgotten.
His love embraces the outcast, forgives the sinner, and searches for the lost. It is a love that lays down its life so that others might live.
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, which foretold that the Messiah would come in humility, riding on a donkey.
This act revealed Jesus as the long-awaited Savior—not a warrior king, but a King of peace. For believers, this moment underscores the sovereignty of God, affirming that His promises are steadfast and His timing flawless. Even amidst delays or challenges, God’s plan unfolds according to His perfect will.
Jesus’ fulfillment of prophecy deepens faith, reminding Christians that God’s purposes will be accomplished at the right time, just as He promised.

Throughout Scripture, we see that God’s timing is not bound by human expectations or limitations. While we may face moments of uncertainty, impatience, or waiting, the Bible reminds us that God is sovereign over all things and His timing is always intentional.

Throughout history, countless examples of injustice, oppression, and inequality highlight humanity’s failure to uphold God’s standards of justice.
This is why there is economic inequality, and poverty or that our country is still grappling with the gross injustices committed during the previous regime’s brutal drug war, or that countries are now locking horns with one another in the on-going trade war on the pretext of perceived economic inequalities and opportunism.
Whether through slavery, racism, or economic disparity, our imperfections have caused immense suffering for others.
These systemic failures reveal the deep flaws within our hearts and societies, exposing the disparity between God’s ideal of justice and the reality of human actions.
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem marks the start of His path to the Cross, where He would lay down His life as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
This moment embodies God’s ultimate act of selfless love, extending an invitation to all people—regardless of their background, nationality, or status—to enter into a relationship with Him.
His arrival signifies God’s call to salvation, offering forgiveness, hope, and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
So this Sunday, let us meet the Lord Jeus Christ, astride a donkey, hail him as our King, as he enters the Jerusalem of our hearts, shouting Hosannah! Hosannah in the Highest!
For, the Lord freely dispenses hope, joy and freedom from the slavery of sin and the misery of despair.
