Lacuna unveils new school buildings

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna inaugurated a six-story school building with 44 air-conditioned classrooms in Tondo, bringing the total number of new school buildings built by her administration to six since she was elected Mayor of Manila in 2022, all without the city incurring any loans.

The new school building will serve a total of 3,225 students and 115 faculty and non-teaching personnel of Emilio Jacinto Elementary School.

“Because the classrooms are air-conditioned, our students and faculty will be protected from the intense heat. In addition to the classrooms, there are separate specialized rooms for studying Information and Communications Technology, Science, Technology, and Livelihood Education, and Home Economics,” Lacuna said during her speech at the inauguration.

Lacuna stated that the new school building was “built using the city’s Special Education Fund, not bank loans.” The project cost was P458,116,746.30.

Built on a 2,864-square-meter lot, the school building’s other facilities include elevators, a library, a canteen, an air-conditioned social hall on the sixth floor, restrooms, and an open basketball court with bleacher seats.
