Chinatown charity marks 38th year, elects new leaders

The Manila Chinatown Charity Foundation celebrated its 38th anniversary on Nov. 9, 2024 at the Century Seafood Restaurant in Manila.

The event also featured the induction of the 18th batch of officers and the 9th batch of Medical Foundation board members.

Honorary executive director Gan Tiak Kheng chaired the assembly and reflected on the foundation’s accomplishments, particularly its initiative to provide free medical services to underprivileged Filipinos every Sunday, which has positively impacted hundreds of thousands.

Newly-appointed executive director Alberto Aquilino thanked the previous directors and urged collective efforts for the foundation’s growth, while Prof. Wu Ziwen, the new chairman of the Medical Foundation, pledged to support the foundation’s development during his tenure.

Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) president Dr. Cecilio Pedro officiated the induction of the executive committee members, while Philippine Chinese Charitable Association Inc. (PCCAI) chairman Antonio Tan conducted the induction of the board of directors.

The event featured a keynote address by FFCCCII honorary president Tan Ching, who praised the foundation’s commitment to community service.

Counselor and Consul General Wang Yie from the Chinese Embassy, along with Federation of Filipino Chinese Associations of the Philippines Foundation (FFCAP) vice chairman Shi Chuncheng, also delivered speeches and support.

The celebration honored the foundation’s past achievements and set a hopeful direction for its future endeavors in helping those in need.
