Misamis Occidental marks 95 years of progress

OROQUIETA CITY – Misamis Occidental marked its 95th provincial founding anniversary with renewed hope for the future at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex (MOPAC) Grandstand on November 2, 2024,

Joining the 10,000 residents present at the event, Governor Henry Oaminal underscored the resilience and unity of the Misamisnon community throughout its storied history.

“Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in our shared history,” Oaminal said, noting that the journey that began on November 2, 1929 when Misamis Occidental was officially established.

He urged the community to honor their forefathers who envisioned a province rooted in resilience, diversity, and opportunity.

“We celebrate not only our past but also the spirit of innovation and collaboration that defines us. in recent years, we have faced new challenges, but together we have shown that we can adapt and thrive,” Oaminal said.

The governor likewise reflected on the challenges faced by the province, from natural disasters to economic struggles, and highlighted the unwavering spirit of the Misamisnon people.

“Despite the hurdles we’ve encountered, we have risen and endured,” he said.

As Misamis Occidental approaches its centennial anniversary, the governor emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in navigating modern challenges.

“Our commitment to sustainability and inclusivity reflects our determination to create a better future for generations to come,” he said.

Oaminal outlined several flagship projects initiated in recent years, including the construction of the Asenso Misamis Occidental Medical Center and the Asenso Pamilya program, which supports the education of thousands of college students across the province.

These initiatives are crucial for improving healthcare and education, driving economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

The province’s economy has shown remarkable growth, with a recent report indicating a 7.4 percent increase in GDP. 

“Let this anniversary remind us of our shared responsibility to continue striving for the development of our beloved province,” he said.
