‘Marce’ now a severe tropical storm, Signal No. 1 raised in parts of northern Luzon

Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 was hoisted late Monday evening in Batanes and other provinces in northern Luzon as ‘Marce’ evolves into a severe tropical storm.

State weather bureau PAGASA warned of intermittent rains across the affected areas as ‘Marce’ underwent rapid intensification. Forecasters expect this tropical cyclone to strengthen further until it reaches typhoon category by Tuesday morning.

“On the forecast track, ‘Marce’ may make landfall in the vicinity of Babuyan Islands or mainland northern Cagayan on Thursday evening (7 November) or Friday (8 November) early morning,” the agency noted in its 11:00 p.m. advisory.

The following areas were placed under TCWS no. 1 amid the inclement weather:

  • Batanes, the northern and eastern portions of Cagayan (Camalaniugan, Lal-Lo, Pamplona, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Baggao, Buguey, Santa Ana, Claveria, Gattaran, Peñablanca, Lasam, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Allacapan, Sanchez-Mira, Santa Praxedes, Alcala, Amulung, Iguig) including Babuyan Islands, the eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, San Pablo, Divilacan, Palanan, Dinapigue), the northern portion of Apayao (Santa Marcela, Luna, Calanasan, Flora, Pudtol), the northern portion of Apayao (Santa Marcela, Luna, Calanasan, Flora, Pudtol), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Isabela (Maconacon, San Pablo, Divilacan, Palanan, Dinapigue), Apayao (Santa Marcela, Luna, Calanasan, Flora, Pudtol)

‘Marce’ was last monitored at 590 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes or 715 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte, PAGASA said. It was moving northwestward at 35 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h and gusts of up to 125 km/h.
