President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. on Friday promised continuous support for Filipinos affected by severe tropical storm ‘Kristine,’ even as the country braces for another potential oncoming storm.
In a situational briefing at Malacañan Palace, Mr. Marcos ordered key agencies to sustain ongoing relief efforts and prepare for the upcoming new weather disturbance. With many residents displaced or staying with family and friends, the President emphasized that relief must continue unimpeded.
“Whether another storm is coming or not, we cannot stop,” President Marcos said. “For those still in evacuation centers, and those staying outside their homes, support from the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) and other agencies cannot stop.”
DSWD Rex Gatchalian reported that over 150,000 family food packs and 3,231 non-food items, totaling more than P 111-million, have been distributed to those hit by ‘Kristine.’ With a national reserve of nearly two million family food packs, the government remains ready to assist.
As the forecasted storm develops, President Marcos stressed the need for continuous monitoring, swift action, and “uninterrupted rescue and relief” operations, underscoring the government’s commitment to support affected communities through both crises.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said there was a tropical storm outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility, which they are closely monitoring as ‘Kristine’ moves on its way out of the country.
