The continuing saga of the dismissed mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, Alice Guo has uncovered so many disturbing developments. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. needs to sit down with administration officials. They need to look at the state of immigration, citizenship and national security policies.
The fact that Alice Guo has been found not to be a true Filipino and that she had been elected mayor brings to fore that question: how many more of our local officials are notnatural-born Filipinos? The Philippine Constitution requires all public officials to be natural-born Filipinos.
Santa Banana, would-be elected Filipinos are now filing their Certificates of Candidacy. I shudder to think that there may be other fake Filipinos like Alice Guo running for public office!
My gulay, that Guo so easily left the country shows how easily wanted people can escape the law. Fugitives like former Bureau of Corrections official Gerald Bantag are still being hunted. Former Negros congressman Arnulfo Teves Jr.,wanted for murder, is still in Timor Leste awaiting extradition. Former Duterte spokesman Harry Roque remains in hiding.
Al Jazeera reported that a self-confessed Chinese tycoon had revealed that Alice Guo is a spy, or at least an asset, of the People’s Liberation Army here in the Philippines. Come to think of it, could those mainland Chinese living in our neighborhoods be spies as well?
I am reminded of those Japanese traders who had been coming back and forth from Japan before World War II, and who turned out to be members of the Japanese Imperial Forces when the country was occupied by Japan, Santa Banana!
I can only recall the “pastillas” immigration scandal where Chinese could easily enter the Philippines. My gulay, how many of them are still in the country? Yes, we need tourists, but when it comes to mainland Chinese tourists, we should be very very careful.
Those Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators or POGOs prove that despite all the billions that POGOs were contributing to the country, their presence carried negative results that were more damaging to the country. The crimes and violations that they committed were not worth all they gave to the government.
Again, I ask, how many more local officials are linked to POGOs, since their existence depended on LGU permits?
Santa Banana, we may laugh at all the reports, but when we realize the implications onnational security, we will realize this is no laughing matter.

Right now Alice Guo is detained at a crowded Pasig jail, built for nine persons but occupied by more than 40.
I wonder how anybody can sleep in that crowd. I suppose detainees take turns sleeping.
President Marcos must fix this anomaly because our jails for detainees is more than a punishment. There’s also the problem of measly budgets for food in jails. With the current measly budget for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the jail detainees would be starved.
Only BBM can remedy the situation in our jails. Getting jailed is enough punishment for people who violated the law. The miserable conditions in our jails reflects the neglect of the government. No wonder there are frequent riots.
