Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Saturday said the National Prosecution Service (NPS) will seize this opportunity to go “all-out” in prosecuting dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo and her co-respondents in the qualified human trafficking case lodged against them.
“[The Department of Foreign Affairs] (DFA)’s decisive call to revoke the passport of Guo undoubtedly opened the doors to justice, this marks the beginning of a relentless pursuit to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law,” Remulla said.
He added that the DFA’s efforts will not be in vain, as they will “prosecute this case to the fullest until justice is served.”
The Justice Secretary lauded the agency’s timely and decisive move in revoking Guo’s passport for violating Republic Act No. 11983, or the New Philippine Passport Act.
Guo’s passport cancellation was enforced on September 30 but was only announced by the DFA yesterday. This was in direct response to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) report that Guo’s biometrics matched those of a certain “Guo Hua Ping.”
Meanwhile, the DOJ also recognizes that Guo is a “flight risk” after being able to travel to Singapore and Malaysia earlier this year until she was held in Indonesia last July.
Guo, whose camp expressed intention to run in the 2025 midterm elections, is currently facing charges of human trafficking, misrepresentation, and money laundering.
