China marks 75th year, cites ties with PH

The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines hosted a National Day reception at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on Sept. 26, 2024 to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

The event gathered 500 dignitaries, including diplomats from various nations, Chinese business executives, students from China and representatives from the Filipino-Chinese community.

Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) president Cecilio Pedro expressed congratulations for the prosperity of their ancestral homeland and underscored the strength of the nation and its people.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian emphasized the importance of the historical ties between the Philippines and China, recalling how leaders from both nations overcame challenges to establish diplomatic relations in 1975.

He called for a return to the original aspirations that fostered the relationship and encouraged continued cooperation for mutual development and regional stability.

First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, Senate President Francis Escudero and Presidential Poverty Alleviation consultant Larry Gadon also attended the event.

Vice President Sara Duterte and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro extended their congratulations through video messages.

Duterte lauded China’s remarkable progress, saying its vision and perseverance positioned itself as a significant player in global affairs.

She highlighted the historical and geographical ties between the Philippines and China, emphasizing a partnership built on sovereign equality, mutual trust, and respect.

Duterte also expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation across various sectors to improve living standards and create a prosperous future for both nations.

Lazaro acknowledged China’s rapid achievements over a single generation and commended its efforts to address global challenges that benefit not just its own citizens but also the wider international community.

She reiterated the Philippines’ commitment to deepening its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, founded on principles of equality, mutual respect and shared benefits.
