Guo camp files counter affidavit on misrepresentation rap

Detained former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo filed her counter-affidavit on the misrepresentation case lodged against her, beating the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In a statement, Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Guo’s lawyers submitted on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 12—the deadline by the poll body to submit the counter affidavit.

“With or without a counter affidavit, it’s deemed submitted for resolution. By next week, the Law Department will make a recommendation to the en banc. Expect that the Comelec en banc will immediately act on the recommendation,” Garcia said.

The case against Guo stemmed from her alleged false claim in her voting records that she is a Filipino citizen, given evidence that she was Chinese national Guo Hua Ping.

Meanwhile, Garcia said their Legal Department has also recommended to charge five other individuals for allegedly misrepresenting themselves when they ran for public office in 2022.

Aside from Guo, five former candidates were recommended to be charged with misrepresentation,” Garcia said. “This was proof that the Commission was not singling out Guo,” he noted.

Garcia assured the public that the Comelec en Banc would rule on the case before September 20.
