NBDB, PBBY Reveal Winners of 8th National Children’s Book Awards

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) have announced the winners of the 8th National Children’s Book Awards (NCBA).

The five books named Best Reads are Rene O. Villanueva and Sergio Bumatay III’s Bum Tiyaya Bum: Philippine Nursery Rhymes and Verses, Ergoe Tinio, Margarita Santos, and Aldy Aguirre’s Hanapin ang Sagot: Ano ang Batas Militar, Liza Flores’ Hiya, Harry Monzon’s Inip, and Candy Gourlay’s Wild Song.

The books included in the Kids’ Choice category are Alinam 2: Diego Domingo and the Three Thieves by Mickey Ingles, Alon and Lila’s Last Summer Before Doomsday by Ingrid Valenzuela, Araw ng mga Ina by John Patrick Solano and Kim Santiago, Baby TK by Kevin Eric Raymundo, Bee Responsible by Joyce Piap-Go and Maria Cristina Sison, Blueplate by Didith T. Rodrigo and Marianne Salvania, Kalesa by Mari T. Delfin, Javier T. Delfin, and Julian T. Delfin, Ang Kambal ng Maya by Lydia G. Calipan, Kapaa Ko si Kuya! by Genaro R. Gojo Cruz and Jaylord S. Losabia, and Libing-isa by Malayo Pa Ang Umaga.

Other recipients of the Kids’ Choice award are Light Seeker by Sofia Shalaby Antonio and Paul Eric Roca, Mga Manikang Papel by Niña Queena C. Amoncio and Kenneth Justine Alba Licaycay, Mars, May Zombie! by Chuckberry J. Pascual, Ang Mundo kong Kahel by Mariel G. Balacut and Hareol Noval Tero, The Perfect Tree by Glory Moralidad and Danielle V. Florendo, Papasok na Kami ni Nanay sa Paaralan by Gojo Cruz and Jhucel A. Del Rosario, Stray Cats by Irene Sarmiento, Super Maya and Super Maya and Her Amazing Ears by Bambi A. Rodriguez and Nix M. Ilagan, and A Visual Guide to Philippine Folklore.

The NCBA is a biennial event that honors the best books published for children and young adults in the past two years. It aims to encourage parents and caregivers to read with their children and to recommend some of the best published works in recent years.
