Octimar leads from start to finish, rules Xiaomi Pop Run 2024

Mark Anthony Octimar ruled the Xiaomi Pop Run 2024 on Saturday, securing the top spot in the professional category.

Guided by his coach, former national athlete Jimar Aing, Octimar took the lead early in the 10-kilometer race and never looked back.

By the time he crossed the finish line at Mall of Asia Seaside Drive, the 30-year-old Philippine Navy serviceman was more than a minute ahead of his closest competitor, clocking in at an impressive 36 minutes and five seconds.

“I didn’t push myself too hard because of the large crowd,”

“Hindi ko masyado pinush ang sarili dahil sa dami ng tao,” said Octimar, who is coached by Jimar Aing, a middle  distance runner who won medals in the Southeast Asian Games during his prime.

The race, now in its second year, saw over 2,000 runners participating, much to the delight of the organizers.

Manila’s Jose Fabito Jr. finished second, a minute behind Octimar, with a time of 37:10, earning a Xiaomi Watch S2 for his efforts. Marikina resident Ronald Salgado claimed third place, finishing in 38:26, just ahead of fourth-placer Angel Mendoza.

In addition to the main event, organizers also hosted a Fun Run, a non-competitive race where participants could time themselves and strive to set personal records.
