SM Malls in Davao City unpacked the magical moments that made this year’s vibrant Kadayawan celebration the “King of Festivals.”
With a burst of colors and culture, SM City Davao and SM Lanang transformed into a festive atmosphere, highlighting Davao’s cultural treasures and wonders.
Picture-Perfect Moments
SM City Davao and SM Lanang added extra fun to the festival by bringing the vibrant Kadayawan hues to the malls through its giant artscapes and colorful inflatables. Shoppers and tourists alike were able to capture instagrammable moments with friends and families, making their August photo dumps come alive.
Hiyas sa Kadayawan Cultural Presentation
Hiyas sa Kadayawan delegates from 11 tribes based in Davao City showcased their festive culture on August 10 at The Annex Event Center, SM City Davao. Representatives from Maranao, Bagobo Tagabawa and Bago Klata were announced as among the top three best in cultural presentation.
Bonsai and Suiseki
In partnership with the Philippine Bonsai Society, Inc. (PBSI) – Mindanao and the Davao Bonsai Society, the Bonsai and Suiseki Show featured over 250 stunning displays of miniature marvels on August 13 to 18 on the Second Level, North Wing, SM Lanang.
MinPop 2024
Shoppers and visitors were serenaded by local pop artists through the three-day Mindanao Popular (MinPop) Music Festival 2024 at The North Wing Grounds in SM Lanang. This is held biennially since 2020, which provides a platform for composers and performers to showcase their world-class talents.
This year’s grand champion is Praise Varian from Davao City with her song titled “Blue.” FJ Salcedo’s “Bilyette” and Stephan Gus Tav Gultiano’s “Gakos” won first runner up and second runner up, respectively.
Mindanaoan singer and songwriter Arthur Nery capped off the music fest with his melodic voice much to the excitement of Davaoeños during the Grand Finals on August 17.
Grand Mascot Parade
Super Mon and Squad led the Grand Mascot Parade on August 16 at SM City Davao. Joining the pack were Philippine Eagle Center’s Malaya and mascots from Tom’s World, Miniso, McDonald’s, Huawei, and FoodPanda.
Kapuso Fiesta
The casts of “Pulang Araw” Barbie Forteza and David Licauco hyped up the Kadayawan celebration at SM City Davao with an extra dose of fun and kilig at the Kapuso Fiesta on August 18.
TEDxLanang Ave
TEDxLanang Ave. concluded with success on August 21 at the SMX Convention Center Davao. Fifteen brilliant minds, creative visionaries, and leaders shared inspiring stories and fresh insights to the largest TEDx event in the Philippines.
Bountiful harvests
In case you missed it, fruits and plants are still aplenty at SM City Davao and SM Lanang.
Happening until September 10, the Kadayawan Pop-Up by the Mindanao Garden Club offers a wide array of fresh fruits and local plants at Open Parking C in SM City Davao. The Durian Festival at the SM Lanang North Wing Grounds also continues to be a crowd-drawer as it continues to offer shoppers a convenient feast on the 11 varieties of the King of Fruits until September 15.
