The Metropolitan and City Judges Association of the Philippines (METCJAP), led by president Eileen Joy Pakino Bonghanoy, visited the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) on Aug. 14, 2024.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by FFCCCII president Cecilio Pedro and other officials.
METCJAP, which is preparing for its 25th anniversary and general meeting scheduled on Sept. 26 to 27, 2024, acknowledged FFCCCII’s support and partnership.
Former METCJAP president Anne Perpetual Ribera Sia lauded FFCCCII for its significant contributions to mainstream society and expressed gratitude for its steadfast support.
Pedro highlighted FFCCCII’s disaster relief efforts, specifically its aid to victims of Typhoon Carina.
He also took the opportunity to commend Judge Jose Covarrubias for his instrumental role in the naturalization process of local Chinese individuals.
Under his leadership at the Solicitor General’s Office, Covarrubias facilitated the integration of many Chinese nationals into Philippine society, with nearly all cases handled and referred by FFCCCII receiving approval.
Covarrubias expressed satisfaction with assisting qualified local Chinese in their naturalization process and contributing to national development in accordance with Republic Act No. 9139.
The visit concluded with FFCCCII executive vice president Victor Lim and other leaders extending their gratitude to the visiting judges, urging them to uphold justice diligently in their roles.
