Ayala Museum opens exhibit on Fernando Zóbel’s ‘The Diorama Experience’

The Ayala Museum has opened “The Historical Imagination: The Making of the Diorama Experience” exhibition at its second-floor gallery.

The exhibition showcases several artifacts, documents, photographs, and other items that served as references for the creation of the Diorama Experience, a visual representation of the story of the Philippine nation envisioned by artist Fernando Zóbel in the 1950s.

Following Zóbel’s vision, the diorama features 60 vignettes capturing the daily lives of Filipinos as well as important events in history that were vital to the formation of the nation. These vignettes were made under the guidance of National Artist for Historical Literature Carlos Quirino, the first director of the Ayala Museum, along with a team of researchers, artists, and woodcarvers.

“The Historical Imagination: The Making of the Diorama Experience” exhibition will run until Oct. 27 and is free to the public.
