The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Wednesday announced it will help shoulder the professional fees of doctors treating indigent patients starting October 30.
“PCSO intends to cover the professional fee of doctors. Whereas before, we only cover the hospitals, the room, and not even all rooms. And now, we will cover the professional fees of doctors,” PCSO General Manager Mel Robles said in a mix of English and Filipino.
The office is set to issue guidelines regarding requirements for the said initiative.
However, the general manager clarified the assistance will only cover the professional fees and not the total medical expenses.
“That is the dream, that is the goal. In our case, it will depend upon budget availability,” Robles said, explaining the coverage will also depend on the amount of the professional fee.
“We can pay the (professional fee) now. That really addresses the situation wherein the patient is stuck at the hospital, you accumulate a larger amount of bill, just because you are yet to settle the professional fee dues,” he added.
