The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) assured that contingency measures are in place in connection with the transport protest initiated by the Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees at Laborers (Manibela).
“As of now, there are no reports of stranded commuters, and the rescue vehicles are still on standby,” the agency stated in its latest report Wednesday.
At around 9:30 a.m., the MMDA command center monitored a four- to five-kilometer traffic from Espana Boulevard to Fishermall in Quezon City caused by the ongoing protest at Welcome Rotonda.
MMDA personnel are instructed to intensify traffic management and assist in crowd control in areas where protests will be held.
Chairman Romando Artes said the MMDA assets and free-ride vehicles from various local government units that will carry affected passengers are already prepositioned and on standby.
He said vehicles will only be deployed as needed.
Transport group Manibela initiated the three-day strike in protest against the government’s Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP).
