Korean arrested over illegal video streaming

Immigration agents in Pampanga nabbed a Korean wanted by authorities in Seoul for illegally selling a video streaming platform on the Internet in violation of his country’s copyright laws.

Kim Jongsik was cornered at his residence in Bgy Sto Nino, Angeles City by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU). The Korean is a subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Busan district court in October 2022 when he was charged with violating Korea’s copyright act.

A red notice on Kim was also issued by the Interpol the following month as a result of his criminal indictment. He is now detained at the BI custodial facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City where he will remain until he is deported.

Kim was already ordered expelled by the BI last year when he was issued a summary deportation order by the bureau’s board of commissioners for being an undesirable alien.

According to the BI-Interpol, Kim operated a Korean-language streaming service in the Philippines since 2013 which offered movies and entertainment shows that were obtained without the permission of its copyright owners in Korea. Subscribers to the said illegal streaming platform were allegedly charged a fee of P4,000 every three months.
