The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) worked with the Chinese Embassy in Manila and 33 other major associations, institutions and members of the Filipino at Tsino Magkaibigan Foundation to launch a calamity fund drive and comprehensive relief initiative to support communities affected by Typhoon Carina.
FFCCCII president Dr. Cecilio Pedro announced during the Pandesal Forum at Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Quezon City on Aug. 5 that they raised P60 million and prepared 30,000 bags of 5-kilogram rice for distribution.
The relief bags also include essential items such as drinking water, sardines, coffee, noodles, toothpaste and soap.
“We are dedicated to supporting the Filipino people and contributing to the development of the Philippines. The federation, along with the entire Filipino-Chinese community, is ready to assist our fellow countrymen in their recovery,” Pedro said.
Pedro personally led the distribution of relief goods to assess the situation on the ground.
“We are packing 50,000 bags of rice to be distributed, and hopefully we can raise a hundred million pesos so we can help more,” he said.
The group distributed relief bags to affected families in Bulacan, Manila, Quezon City, San Juan City, Pasay City, Malabon City and Navotas City.
More municipalities will be visited in the upcoming days, the FFCCCII said.
