A 63-year-old former barangay captain of Ingore, La Paz in Iloilo City was fatally shot by an unidentified gunman on Monday morning, August 5.
The victim, Ernie Poral, was at Talipapa in Barangay Baldoza, La Paz, buying feeds when a man dressed in a black sweatshirt and jacket approached and shot him in the head. The suspect immediately fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Poral was rushed to the West Visayas State University Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Iloilo City Police Office Chief Police Colonel Kim Legada said the investigation is ongoing. They are interviewing family members and reviewing closed-circuit television footage to trace the suspect’s route after the crime.
Legada confirmed plans to form a special task group dedicated to solving this crime. The task group will focus on gathering and analyzing evidence to identify and apprehend the suspect.
He added that the establishment of the task group follows the Philippine National Police’s guidelines, which require a prominent personality, such as a government official or foreign national, to be involved in the case.
This ensures a thorough investigation and swift action in solving the case.
