TV8 Media bags nominations in the 2024 Contentasia Awards

TV8 Media Production goes big time with its nominations in this year’s ContentAsia Awards.

This is the first time the blocktime producer has been cited by an international award giving body for its produced contents. Two of its programs – “Dear SV” and “Business Matters” – are both nominated in the “Best Current Affairs Programme Made in Asia for a Single Market in Asia” category.

Judged by industry peers with hands-on knowledge and experience of the creative and production process, the ContentAsia Awards bring ContentAsia’s experience, depth of knowledge and integrity into Asia’s Awards space.

“We are winners already with these nominations,” boasts TV8 Media Production Business Unit Head Vanessa Verzosa. “Imagine, two of our produced programs are both nominated and we are the only Philippine media company that has been cited in that category.”

Established in 2016, TV8 Media Production is an independent producer of TV programs with Business Matters as its first blocktime produced program aired on Bloomberg Philippines in June 2016. Hosted by Shawn Yao, the said program transferred to CNN Philippines after two seasons with Pinky Webb as its new host. Its success has enabled the production outfit to produce two more programs namely “I Heart Ph” and “Dear SV.”

WINNING FORMULA. Business Matters claims to be the Philippines’ first television program that tackles the diverse practice of Corporate Citizenship, from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as philanthropic practice to the adoption of a sustainable Inclusive Business (IB) model.

The episode that featured Energy Development Corporation (EDC) and Meralco Electric Company (MEC) got the nod of this year’s jury for the program’s nomination in the said category. Both companies advocate youth empowerment through their respective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. EDC ignites the future of children with its scholarship program called SIKAT; while a public elementary school in T’boli, South Cotabato has benefited from the school electrification program of MEC’s One Meralco Foundation.

“Our blood and sweat has paid off with this nomination for our program,” shares Business Matters director Jallawee Beritan. “We really move mountains just to produce the program, literally and figuratively. That’s why we are so elated by this nomination, giving two-thumbs up for the hard work and commitment of the whole production team.”

Apparently, Business Matters stopped airing when CNN Philippines ceased its operations last January 31. However, the business magazine show will soon air on its new network, GMA News TV and Heart of Asia .

HEART-WRENCHING STORY. The family living under a bridge featured in one of the episodes of “Dear SV” seemingly has touched the hearts of the Jury of ContentAsia Awards, making it in this year’s list of nominees for the “Best Current Affairs Programme Made in Asia for a Single Market in Asia” category.

Hosted by Tutok to Win Party List Representative Sam Verzosa, Jr., ‘Dear SV’ serves as the guiding light and hope for the individuals and communities across the country through sustainable livelihood, scholarships, employment and financial assistance. The public service program, which is aired every Saturday at 11:30 PM on GMA 7, features inspiring stories of ordinary Filipinos who never lose hope and remain resilient despite the struggles and challenges they face everyday.

“Our production company is akin to David against the Goliaths in the industry,” quips Verzosa. “The nominations we’ve got from the ContentAsia Awards boost our commitment to produce more relevant and inspiring stories for the Filipinos here and abroad. This is our biggest leap to date.”

Last year’s staging of the ContentAsia Awards was held in Bangkok, Thailand, attended by more than 200 people and covered by 22 media outlets across Asia. This year, the awarding ceremony will be held in Taipei, Taiwan on September 5.

TV8 Media Production stands tall as one of the content providers competing in the ContentAsia Awards 2024.
