Transport group Manibela on Sunday threatened to stage a strike as President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. delivers his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa complex in Quezon City on Monday, July 22.
Interviewed over dzBB’s Super Radyo, Manibela president Mar Valbuena said in the National Capital Region alone, about 4,000 Manibela members would participate in today’s transport strike to express their objection to the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) again.
The protest action would start in front of the Commission on Human Rights headquarters in Diliman, Quezon City at noon, he said.
Simultaneous protest rallies would be held in Baguio City, Pangasinan, Naga City in Camarines Sur, parts of the Visayas and Davao region, he said.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Transportation Office have begun apprehending public utility vehicles that failed to join cooperatives under the PUVMP.
