Pride PH held a thanksgiving concert on June 30 at Quezon City Memorial Circle, featuring several queer performers. One of them was the renowned drag queen Marina Summers, who sang her hit song “AMAFILIPINA” and performed a lip sync of “Release Me,” which she originally showcased on Rupaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World Season 2.
Before her much-anticipated performance on the Pride PH Festival stage, comedian and TV host Vice Ganda visited her backstage. In her Instagram stories, Summers shared how the comedian’s visit was one of the most memorable moments of her life.
“Hearing Meme Vice say ‘I’m so proud of you. You’re the best. The best.’ before I performed last night is probably one of the best things that has happened to me as an artist (Like Ru’s born to drag levels),” said Summers in her post.
Summers also pointed out how the comedian had been an icon and inspiration for her and many queer Filipinos, promising to continue making him and the rest of the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community proud.
“PS. Sabi nya tsaka na daw ako mag-retire pag mayaman na mayaman na ako and pag masakit na yung tuhod ko,” the drag queen jokingly added.
Pride PH is an organization that aims to celebrate and support the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community. It continues to call for the passing of the SOGIE Equality Bill into law.
