Manila Standard celebrates fathers who can bring home the bacon and go the extra mile by cooking it—through the highly anticipated culinary showdown, “Clash of Kawali”
The friendly cooking competition this time manifests in the Father’s Day Special Edition at Hotel Lucky Chinatown on June 22.
This year, three teams consisting of father-child pairs competed to prepare sumptuous meals with a P1,000 budget.
Participating teams included Russel and Angel Jupiter, Neil and Shanina Baculfo, and Carlo and Christian Balio.
Ultimately, the Jupiter team emerged as champion of the Father’s Day special through their winning dish, fried spring rolls, and pork binagoongan.
The Jupiter family took home a prize of P7,500, as well as the Golden Kawali trophy to boot.
Meanwhile, the teams of the Baculfo and Balio families each received P3,000.
The Baculfo team cooked burger steak with potato and mushroom sauce, while the Balio team prepared a Bisaya version of humba.
All the contestants had to satisfy the criteria of theme adherence (30 points), taste (30 points), teamwork (15 points), presentation (15 points), and sanitation (10 points).
The distinguished panel of judges includes Hotel Lucky Chinatown PR and marketing officer Joshua Yasay, The Ad Creator president Minnie Reyes, The Ad Creator media director Rhoda Luna, and Manila Standard deputy online editor Ratziel San Juan.
