PH campaigner Agra soars to top spot in Asian Padel Tour rankings

RIDING high on a pair of lofty finishes in the Asian tour within two months, Filipina campaigner Jessica Agra took the No. 1 spot in the latest women’s rankings of the Asia Pacific Padel Tour (APPT).

Two weeks ago, Agra secured 2980 points after finishing as the runner-up at the Bali Open in Indonesia. This happened after her victory at the Phuket Open, where she and her Indonesian partner Beatrice Gumulya clinched the women’s doubles title.

This win elevated her from the 6th position to No. 2 in the rankings. Her subsequent runner-up finish in Bali, alongside Spanish partner Maria Mayoral Estrada, finally secured her the top ranking.

Estrada, Portugal’s Constanza Kokorelis, and fellow Spaniard Patricia Garcia are currently tied for the second spot.

Indonesian siblings Sandy and Beatrice Gumulya are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.

Completing the top-tiered list are Japan’s Chifumi Sato in seventh place, France’s Kim Ben Attar in eighth, and Japan’s Yoshino Kushima and Indonesians Komang Sri Maryati and Karyn Esmeraldo, all tied for ninth place.

Agra’s previous achievements include a semifinal in the Hong Kong Grandslam women’s Open category, playing alongside fellow Filipino Jessica Lucas. Earlier this year, she made it to the semifinals of the Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh, teaming up with Kazakhstan’s Dasha Berezhnaya.

Her impressive track record includes victories at the APPT Vietnam Open (mixed pro), MartinX Academy’s Tournament Open, 4th Philippine National Padel (mixed open), 2nd Philippine National Padel (women’s open), and 1st Play Padel Open (women’s open).

An Ateneo law graduate, Agra plans to participate in more APPT events, which will include upcoming legs in Singapore, Tokyo, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
