Negros Occidental—Following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on June 3, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended crucial support to 1,600 families across various barangays severely impacted by the disaster.
According to the DSWD, 569 families from La Castellana and Bago City each received ₱10,000 in financial assistance, amounting to a total of ₱15.79 million through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Program.
In addition to the financial aid, the DSWD distributed 288 hygiene kits, 97 sleeping kits, 193 family kits, and 194 family food packs to the affected families.
DSWD 6 Information Officer Atty. May Rago-Castillo assured that no family would be displaced, emphasizing that the regional office is prepared to assist with essential needs and provide psycho-social support to the evacuees.
