VP Sara criticizes ‘questionable’ use of force in Quiboloy arrest attempt

Vice President Sara Duterte has raised concerns against what she described as the “questionable” and “excessive” use of force during the failed attempt to arrest fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy.

“I am one with those calling for orderly, acceptable, and humane implementation of the law and justice in our country,” Duterte said in Filipino in a Tuesday statement.

“This follows the chaotic service of the arrest warrant for Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy yesterday that caused questionable show of excessive force and authority in front of civilians,” she added.

The Vice President called on law enforcers to be aware of everyone’s safety, especially civilians, as well as to ensure that youth are far from harm.

“Let us also not forget that harassing our citizens is insulting to our democracy. Hopefully we can maintain respect, order, and peace in our country,” Duterte said.

Quiboloy is facing arrest warrants from a Davao court for charges of sexual and child abuse, while a Pasig court has ordered his arrest for the non-bailable offense of human trafficking.

Around 100 police from two special battalions stormed properties associated with the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader on Monday dawn to serve arrest warrants against him and five of his co-accused.
